Research Equipment Grants

Research equipment can be purchased with grants.

There are several programs that provide grants to purchase equipment for research and development projects. Grants may also support programs that help institutions of higher education buy research equipment. These equipment grants do not have to be repaid by the recipients.

Used Energy-Related Laboratory Equipment Grants

The Department of Energy sponsors the Used Energy-Related Laboratory Equipment Grants program. Grant funds are used to obtain used research equipment that is then given to eligible recipients for use in energy-oriented research and instructional programs in the fields of science and engineering. Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, high schools, middle schools, hospitals, technical institutes and museums. Equipment may not be sold or auctioned.

Basic Scientific Research

The Basic Scientific Research program is sponsored by the Department of Defense. Grants from this program are used to fund research projects in the fields of mathematics, engineering, physics, biology and geosciences that help the U.S. Army improve its programs and operations. Funds are also used to support programs that encourage high school and college students to pursue careers in engineering and science, as well as programs that provide a way for universities to purchase expensive research equipment. Nonprofit scientific research organizations and educational institutions are eligible to apply for these grants.
