Keiser University has 14 campus locations throughout Florida and offers undergraduate and graduate level programs to postsecondary students. Individuals interested in employment as a pharmacy technician can apply to the pharmacy technology program at the university. The program is open to individuals who have graduated from high school or have obtained a general education development (GED) diploma.
Degree
Keiser University offers an associate of science degree in pharmacy technology. The program is a terminal degree that is comprised of 64 credit hours and generally requires two years to complete. However, individuals with previous postsecondary education may apply for transfer credit to apply general education courses toward the program's requirements.
Curriculum
The pharmacy technology program is comprised of 24 credit hours of general education courses and 40 credit hours of major courses. Throughout the program, students take courses in pharmacy operations, pharmaceutical calculations and drug therapy, and complete seven credit hours in practical placements for hands-on experience.
After Graduation
Graduates of the pharmacy technology program are prepared to dispense medications under the supervision of a pharmacist and are knowledgeable in the state and federal laws that regulate pharmaceutical operations. Graduates can seek employment in both retail and hospital pharmacy settings.
