Radiologic technologists perform imaging procedures for diagnostic purposes.
Radiologic technician and technologists are responsible for taking CAT scans and X-rays or for administering materials that are nonradioactive into a patient’s blood stream so that a physician can diagnose a condition or illness. Radiologic technology programs are available in California that provide students with the training and education needed to pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination in 2010.
Chaffey College
Chaffey College has a radiologic technology program that leads to an associate in science degree or a program certificate. Students can expect to complete this program in two years with the clinical experiences taking place during the final months of the program. During this time, students will attend their clinicals four days per week and be on campus for the remaining one day each week. Students will take courses that include medical procedures for radiologic technologists and radiologic science and protection.

El Camino College has a radiologic technology program that prepares students for entry into the field of radiology as a technician. Students who complete this program will earn associate in science degrees and take courses that include digital imaging principles; radiographic quality; radiation protection; introduction to radiographic examinations; radiation exposure and safety; and professional ethics.

Los Angeles City College
Los Angeles City College has a radiologic technology program that leads students to an associate’s degree upon completion as well as preparation for the national registry examination. Los Angeles City College also offers special certification options fluoroscopy, intravenous and digital imaging. Course programs include radiographic anatomy and positioning of the skeletal system; fundamentals of X-ray physics; radiographic mathematics; and fundamentals of patient care and management.

San Diego Mesa College
San Diego Mesa College has a radiologic technology program in which a student may pursue a certificate of achievement or an associate in science degree. Both options can be completed in 24 months and requires students to take courses that include basic radiologic technology; recording media and processing; radiographic exposure; organization of radiology; and radiation biology.
