Radiologic technicians and technologists perform imaging examinations for diagnostic purposes for the physician's use. Obtaining an associate degree in radiologic technology is the most popular form of education toward entering into this field. Most states, including California, require licensure; the schools that offer radiologic technology programs prepare students for the licensure examination at the national and state levels.
Cabrillo College
Cabrillo College has a radiologic technology program that begins in the fall semester of each year and lasts for two years on a full-time schedule. Students are required to complete laboratory experiences that range from a commitment of 16 to 40 hours each week. Students take courses that include principles of radiographic imaging, principles of fluoroscopy, advanced diagnostic imaging and medical imaging pathology. Upon completion of this program, students receive their Associate in Science degree, can take the national registry examination and can obtain their licensure from the state of California.

California State University Northridge
California State University at Northridge has a radiologic technology program that leads students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. Students in this program learn a variety of specialized procedures in imaging that include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and cardiovascular imaging. Students take courses that include radiographic anatomy and positioning, radiologic physics, pathophysiology, cross-sectional anatomy and quality assurance in radiology. Students also take classes in diagnostic imaging, radiologic health and computed tomography.

Pasadena City College
Pasadena City College has an Associate in Science degree program in radiologic technology that prepares students for both the national examination as well as the licensure examination for the state of California. Students can complete the program in two years on a full-time schedule and Pasadena City College recommends that students work no more than 15 to 20 hours each week while they are in this program. Students take courses that include basic radiologic technology practices, radiographic anatomy and positioning, medical procedures for radiologic technology, principles of radiographic exposure and radiographic physics.

Foothill College
Foothill College offers an Associate in Science degree program in radiologic technology that consists of 22 months of study within the classroom, laboratories and clinical experiences. Students take courses that include basic patient care for imaging technology, fundamentals of radiologic technology, law and ethics in medical imaging and principles of radiologic technology. Student also take courses that include radiographic pathology, fluoroscopy, venipuncture, radiographic positioning and special procedures and equipment.
