Troubleshoot a Kodak 1400
The Kodak 1400 is a professional quality digital printer. It has the capability to print high-quality 8x10 photographs within 90 seconds with multiple photos per sheet. It has a USB interface, for Windows and Mac. This printer is versatile and sturdy, however, as with most printers, wear and tear can occur. Before taking the printer in for an expensive repair or service, there are a few, basic troubleshooting steps you can take on your own.
Instructions
1. Check that the power switch is in the "ON" position and the power cord securely plugged into the printing unit and the wall socket. Remove the USB cable as sometimes these can be defective and will prevent the printer from turning on.
2. Turn the printer off and allow it to cool if the printing is taking longer than usual and if there is a green ERROR light blinking. Move the printer to a cooler location. If the printer is too cold there will be three solid green lights. Move the printer to a warmer location.
3. Remove all sheets of paper that have irregularities if the printer will not feed paper correctly. Make sure that the tray is adjusted for the desired paper size. Reduce the amount of paper in the tray and try to print again.
4. Check that the paper in the tray is clean and free of streaks if there are colored lines and scratches on the paper printed. Make sure that the ribbon is clean and securely snapped into the ribbon carrier.
5. Clean the thermal head. Turn off the printer and open the cover. Wipe the print-head Heater Line and the Ribbon Guide Bar a few times with a cloth and a small dab of isopropyl alcohol or distilled water. The heater line runs the horizontal length of the printer. Check the service manual for a visual of the heater line. Use a firm pressure and only wipe in one direction. Allow the area to dry for a few minutes then close the cover and make a test print.
