Make An Astronaut Costume

You can often create a homemade costume for much less money than purchasing a pre-made design from a store. Whether it's for Halloween or a birthday theme party, you can create an out-of-this-world astronaut costume for your child or yourself. This option allows you to customize your costume design with items such as NASA patches, an astronaut air pack and glow in the dark stickers.

Instructions

1. Locate orange clothing. Using orange clothing for an astronaut costume creates the appropriate effect. Consider using an orange shirt and pair of pants or overalls.

2. Purchase NASA patches. You can purchase a variety of NASA patches from the NASA History Division (see Resources). Use a glue gun to adhere the patches to each sleeve of the orange shirt.

3. Create astronaut air packs. Locate two 2-liter bottles of soda to create an astronaut air pack. After washing the bottles and allowing time to dry, tape the bottles together using duct tape. Then use silver spray paint to achieve a realistic color.

4. Use glow in the dark stickers. If you are creating the astronaut costume for your child, they may enjoy adhering glow in the dark stickers to the air packs.

5. Find a pair of yellow or orange rain boots to finish off your astronaut costume.
