Radiology Programs In Ohio

Pursue a career as an X-ray machine operator with training from an Ohio radiology program.


Ohio residents who wish to pursue a career in radiology must obtain a license from the Ohio Department of Health. The department issues licenses to graduates of certified radiology programs. Careers for radiology program graduates include radiographer, nuclear medicine technologist, X-ray machine operator and radiation therapist. For individuals interested in pursuing a radiology program in Ohio, there are several options.


Ohio State University


Obtain a bachelor of science in radiology at Ohio State University.


The Ohio State University College of Medicine's School of Allied Medical Professionals offers a radiologic sciences and therapy program for students who wish to earn a bachelor of science (BS) degree in the radiologic sciences. Students in the program participate in clinical rotations at large urban hospitals, small rural clinics and private practices for a wide range of work experience. You can also choose to specialize in radiography, radiation therapy or diagnostic medical sonography as a part of your degree. Tuition is $30,924 per year for residents; nonresidents pay an additional $16,053 as of 2010.

University of Cincinnati


The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine offers advanced training in radiology as a medical school specialization. The University Hospital in Cincinnati admits no more than eight students per year into its advanced radiology residency program. Admissions for each program is highly competitive. All medical students at the university are required to develop a solid foundation of experience in different aspects of radiology. Fourth year medical students have the option to take a one-month clerkship in the radiology department to develop their experience even further. Tuition for the College of Medicine is $30,855 per year for Ohio residents and $47,406 for nonresidents as of July 2010.

University of Akron


The University of Akron offers an associate of applied science in radiologic technology that prepares students to take the certification exam of the American Registry of Radiologic Technology and obtain a license from the Ohio Department of Health. Courses for the program are held at the University of Akron campus and the Akron Children's Hospital. Clinical rotations include the university, hospital and other local medical practices for a full 40 hours per week during the clinical portion of the program. Tuition for the associate's degree program is $7,375 per year for Ohio residents plus an additional $301 per credit for nonresidents as of July 2010.
