Breast Cancer Awareness Day Activities

Breast cancer is a serious illness that affects many women each year. However, it is treatable and most times curable. To do this women age 40 and above need to be checked annually by making an appointment for a mammogram, and all women should self-check at home monthly. The problem is many women tend to put off getting tested, think it won't happen to them or just don't understand the severity of the illness. There are ways to increase awareness of the disease and the testing. Activities at breast cancer awareness events are used to help with understanding.

Recognition

One activity helps women understand what they are looking for in a self-examination. Medical centers will help set up this display if requested. It involves an examples of what lumps feel like. Participants are allowed to feel the different examples to help them recognize what a lump might feel like.

Blankets

Making blankets and pillows for those who are already ill helps women see that there are those who are struggling with cancer. It also helps the patients to see that others care and want to help.

Printed Reminders

Decorating T-shirts that are already printed with breast cancer awareness slogans can get the issue out in front of the general public when the shirts are worn. Giving out other items with reminders to get tested printed on them also helps with awareness. Items such as checkbook covers, little calendars or even coffee mugs are good items to use for this.

Fundraisers

On a larger scale, fundraisers are held to raise money for medical research. Pamphlets are handed out to explain the cause and increase under standing of the situation. Fundraisers include auctions, walks and even selling items.
