Early Signs Of Lung Cancer For Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast cancer can metastasize (spread) to the lungs. There are several early warning signs.

Cough

A cough not caused by a known illness, such as asthma or a cold, can be one of the first signs of lung metastasis. The cough may be dry or accompanied by mucus or blood, according to BreastCancer.org.

Shortness of Breath

Shortness of breath is a common symptom of cancer in the lungs. Lung metastasis can cause a collapsed lung or obstruction of the airways. Pneumonia may also occur if bacteria is trapped in an obstructed airway.

Back or Side Pain

A dull pain in the back or side may be a sign of metastasis, according to Breast Cancer Network of Strength.

Chest Pain

Chest pain with no known cause, such as heartburn or injured ribs, could be a warning sign.

Loss of Appetite

Up to 90 percent of individuals with advanced cancer have a loss of appetite, and may experience weight loss.
