A health fair is a community service presented by a health organization, local organization or private firm to advance the health and well being of the public. These events are more widespread than ever as Americans become more health conscious. Private employers benefit from holding health fairs because employees learn ways to improve their health and well being, which often results in increased productivity and fewer sick days. Public health fairs benefit the public at large.
Activity Oriented Fair
An activity-oriented health fair provides attendees the opportunity to interact in some way with each station. For example, doctors can take participants’ blood pressure, or dentists can provide a general screening for common problems. A physical therapist might demonstrate symptom-specific adjustments on participants. A dietitian could bring five pounds of a substance to illustrate the effect of five pounds on the body. Note that some activities might require a waiver to be signed.
Presentation Fair
During a presentation fair, participants may stop and listen to a short presentation by each vendor, and then stay for Q A. A presentation fair will include fewer vendors to give each ample time to discuss the elements of the presentation with fair attendees
Informational Booth Fair
At an information health and wellness fair, vendors hand out informational printed material and samples at their booths. This might include flyers and pamphlets outlining their services or products. This type of fair usually includes a larger number of vendors than a presentation fair. Vendors often provide samples of their products to attendees.
Workplace Fair
Organize a health and wellness fair in the workplace to demonstrate a commitment to the health and well-being of employees. Provide an incentive for employees to participate by offering special privileges. If the business is large, employers might opt for a multi-day health fair so that everyone has a chance to attend. Hold the fair in a highly visible and accessible location, such as near a break room or inside a conference room.
