Ultrasound technicians operate diagnostic medical imaging equipment to produce images for physicians.
Ultrasound technician programs typically take between one and two years to complete. The programs prepare students for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Students who complete the programs and pass the certification exam can enter into the field of ultrasound technology as a sonographer.
