Office procedures, in reference to medical and surgical procedures, are procedures that your doctor or physician can perform in his office instead of in a hospital or surgery center. These are usually low-risk procedures, some of which are considered routine, that can be performed in less than a couple of hours and don't require much recovery time. There are several different types of office procedures, ranging in different types of medical practices from dental to gynecological to cosmetic.
Dental office procedures
Dental office procedures are among the more common office procedures performed. This is because dental procedures usually aren't life-threatening or extremely complicated, and a dentist is usually equipped with everything she needs to perform procedures in her office. Common dental office procedures include teeth whitening, crown and bridge work, fillings, and root canals.
Gynecological office procedures
Many women have found convenience and relief in the fact that several gynecological and obstetric procedures can now be performed in their doctor's office. These procedures include Pap smears, endometrial ablation (a surgical procedure that alleviates painful and heavy menstrual periods), sterilization procedures, cancer screening and treatment, and ultrasounds. Women's health procedures that can be performed in the office typically require little recovery time and pose slim risks for complication.
Cosmetic office procedures
Cosmetic procedures such as tattoo removal, hair removal, skin tightening and rejuvenation, vascular and spider vein treatment, and pigmented lesion removal are all available in a doctor's office. Most cosmetic procedures performed with lasers are done in an office, as well as procedures that don't involve incisions or implants. Cosmetic procedures such as these are relatively simple and have little risk association as long as sterile equipment is used and the patient follows post-procedure instructions carefully.
