Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Schools

There are educational and training opportunities in diagnostic cardiac sonography around the country.

Diagnostic cardiac sonographers are responsible for creating diagnostic images of the heart and vascular structures in the human body. The equipment used in this procedure produces high-frequency sound waves that obtain digital data that is transported onto an imaging screen. Graduates from a diagnostic cardiac sonography certificate program are eligible for the certification examination through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Careers are available in hospitals, medical health clinics and imaging centers.

University of Kansas

This is a five-semester program that includes courses in cardiac anatomy, adult echocardiography, cardiac assessment, ultrasound physics, cardiac physiology and instrumentation. Students also must complete a clinical practicum under the supervision of a cardiac sonographer at the medical center.
