Cardiovascular Sonography Schools In Florida

The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography sets the standards for cardiovascular sonography training.

Cardiovascular sonographers use ultrasound technology to help doctors diagnose heart disease. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than half work at hospitals. Others work at medical clinics, ultrasound facilities and doctors' offices. Most sonographers work full-time, or 40 hours a week. As a student, you train in general sonography, with specialized coursework in cardiovascular sonography. In Florida, you have several options for completing your sonography education.

Keiser University

Keiser University offers an Associate of Science in diagnostic medical sonography. Through laboratory, didactic and clinical education, students train for a career as a diagnostic medical sonographer. Students learn to provide diagnostic services, assisting physicians as they gather data, to make a diagnosis. Keiser's 91-hour degree program includes a focus on cardiovascular sonography. Students must sign a statement of good health, complete a background check and pass a drug screening. To graduate, they must earn at least a "C" in general education courses and have a 3.0 or higher GPA. Keiser has 14 campuses across Florida, including campuses in Daytona Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville and Tampa.

Broward College

Broward College's diagnostic medical sonography program has two tracts. The certificate program is for those with experience in radiology or sonography and may include physicians from outside the country who need to be certified. All others go through an Associate of Science program that combines general educational requirements, certificate program courses and specialized courses. The associate's degree program usually takes 24 months to complete. Those who have completed a radiological technology program have preference in admission over others. If space is available, the program admits others, including physicians, physical therapists, registered nurses or nuclear medicine technologists. To be eligible to apply, you must have a least a 2.5 GPA.
