Fun Adult Costumes

Dress as your favorite movie character for Halloween

Costumes aren't just for little kids. Adults of all ages can create a costume that shows off their interests or portrays their favorite characters. From traditional costumes to sets for couples, the options are virtually endless. If you're stumped for ideas, try these on for size. They cover everything from cops to wacky movie characters and more. Plan for yourself or you and your girlfriend, and have a blast with creative costumes that stand out from the rest.

Sets

Adult costumes can be created in sets or bought to match each other. Some are simple, such as costumes resembling bottles of ketchup and mustard, while others are more elaborate. A king and queen costume, for example, go well together. If you don't want to buy two costumes that are meant to match each other, consider using the same theme. Perhaps you and your partner dress as superheroes. He could be Superman and you could be Wonder Woman. This works with classic costumes as well. Men and women both can find police costumes, or dress as a doctor and nurse duo. Costumes can play off each other as well. For example, instead of two cops, dress as a cop and have him dress as a prisoner.

Characters

For those who want a costume all their own, character costumes tend to be the most popular. From books to movies, any character costume can be purchased or created with a little imagination. Think of your favorite books, movies and television shows. Make a list of possible character ideas and then see which would be the easiest to make for the cheapest price. Decide if you want to be a villain or a hero. If you can't pull off an entire costume resembling a specific character, save money by going as a generic version of that character. Instead of being a specific vampire, such as a character from the movie "Twilight," simply go as a traditional vampire. You will only need a cape and fangs instead of a character-specific costume.

Creative

When you feel like creating a daring costume that's sure to draw attention, consider a creative costume that no one else will be wearing. An unusual character is one option. Consider books or movies that are not as well known, or are less popular when it comes to Halloween costumes. You can also be witty with your costume and go as a concept. For example, wear black clothes with glitter and dots of white paint on them and tell people you are the universe or the galaxy. Historical figures make good costumes as well. Wear a hat with a fake apple glued to the top and tell people you are Isaac Newton.
