Donate Soda Can Tabs

For decades, the veracity of a story regarding soda pop tabs being useful to charities has been debated. The belief that you can collect tabs for kidney dialysis has been debunked as an urban legend. However, in recent years, because of the popularity of this myth, several organizations are in fact collecting soda can tabs and soup can tabs and turning them into funds for charity. Read on to learn donate soda can tabs.

Instructions

1. Contact your local redemption center. Ask them if they offer money per pound of aluminum can tabs. Some places do this and people can bring in gallon jugs full of tabs and trade them for cash. Not everywhere in the country allows this, however, so ask before you collect.

2. Make sure your local redemption center will accept cans without tabs. This way you can not only cash in on the tabs but also on the cans, thereby raising even more funds for a charity of your choosing.

3. Investigate your area. Get in touch with local hospitals and schools. They typically do drives for pop tops. In some areas, the Lion's Club and the American Legion also collect tabs. A call to these organizations can get you in on the collecting. Plus, by donating locally, you avoid having to mail tabs and often won't even need to drop them off anywhere, as someone may volunteer to come to you to pick them up.

4. Donate your tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. This is just one example of a charity organization that decided to turn the myth into reality. Although a whole can would be more valuable, the Ronald McDonald House only wants tabs because they are easier to store, cleaner and easier for people to donate.

5. Start a drive in your area. Either find a redemption center that's willing to pay for tabs and choose a local cause to start a tab collection for, or collect pop tops in your area and send them to the Ronald McDonald House. This is an easy charity drive for kids to do, and virtually everyone can participate regardless of their financial situation.
