What Classes Are Required For An Xray Technician At Nacc

Requirements for x-ray technician certification differ from state to state.

Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC), located in Rainsville, offers an Associate in Science (AS) degree in Radiologic Sciences. This degree is a two-year program intended to prepare graduates for certification and employment as x-ray technicians. Students are required to complete 63 to 68 hours of coursework for the degree.

Written Composition

All students seeking an AS in Radiologic Sciences at NACC must complete two writing courses for a total of six credit hours. The two courses are English Composition I and English Composition II.

Fine Arts and Humanities

Students must complete 12 to 13 hours of humanities and fine arts courses. One three-hour American, English or World Literature course is required. Fundamentals of Public Speaking, a three-hour course, is also mandatory. Three credits must come from a fine arts elective course. These electives include: Art Appreciation, Art History I, Art History II, Music Appreciation, Theater Appreciation and Introduction to Theater. The remaining credits can come from either three credit hours of Literature or four credit hours of electives in humanities and fine arts. Humanities electives include: Introductory Spanish I, Introductory Spanish II, Intermediate Spanish I, Intermediate Spanish II, Ethics and Society, History of World Religions, Survey of the Old Testament and Survey of the New Testament.

Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Students working toward the AS in Radiologic Sciences must complete 11 credit hours in math and science. The required courses are Precalculus Trigonometry, General Physics I and General Physics II.

Social Sciences

Each student must acquire 12 hours in social sciences. Students must take General Psychology, a three-hour course. Three to six hours may be from another social or behavioral science course, such as Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, World Regional Geography, American National Government, Human Growth and Development, Introduction to Sociology and Social Problems. Three to six hours must be in history. Courses offered include: Western Civilization I, Western Civilization II, United States History I and United States History II.
