How Long Does It Take Yasmin To Become Effective

How Long Does It Take Yasmin to Become Effective?

What is Yasmin?

Yasmin is a birth control containing a drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol combination. Yasmin prevents ovulation and changes the composition of the uterus to make it difficult for the sperm to reach it in order to fertilize the female egg. Yasmin is used to prevent pregnancy and prevent acne in women who are 14 or older and who wish to prevent pregnancy with oral contraception. A gynecologist or family doctor will prescribe Yasmin after an internal examination. You should not take Yasmin if you smoke, as it can put you at risk for blood clots.

Take Yasmin

After being prescribed Yasmin, you can start taking it the Sunday after you get your menstrual period. Take one pill a day, preferably at the same time every day. The third week includes seven sugar pills, which do not contain any medication and are used as placeholders. Take one sugar pill at the same time every day, then start a new pack. You will get your menstrual period during this week of sugar pills. Yasmin is not completely effective until you have taken it for one complete month, and at that point it is still recommended that you use a backup method of birth control, as no birth control is 100 percent effective. Yasmin does not protect against any sexually transmitted diseases.

If You Miss Your Yasmin Dose

After the first month, if you miss one dose, take two pills the next day and continue taking Yasmin as usual. You will still be protected against pregnancy. If you miss two doses in a row during the first or second week of pills, take two tablets at a time for the next two days at the same time. For the next 7 days, Yasmin will not be as effective, so you should use another form of birth control. If you have missed two doses in a row during the third week of pills, continue taking one pill a day until Saturday. On Sunday, throw away the rest of the pack and start a new pack on Sunday. You may not get your period this month, and you should use an alternative birth control for the next seven days.
