Overcome The Fear Of Marriage

Even in this day of high divorce rates, marriage is still a contract that should not be enetered into lightly. Fear of this contract is natural, and there are ways you can overcome a fear of marriage and enjoy a lasting relationship.

1. Figure out where your fears are coming from. If this is not your first time down the aisle, think back over the things you would have changed or done differently. The most important thing is to realize before you said I do what you fear and realize their potential for destruction.


2. Decide whether or not you have chosen the right person. Sometimes a fear of marriage comes from doubts regarding the person you are marrying. These fears can be overcome with clear scrutiny and honesty within yourself.


3. Address your fears of marriage with your future spouse. Communicating your fears is not a sign of weakness, but is instead a sign of strength. Overcome your fears of marriage together.


4. Understand that marriage is work. THe worst thing you can do is walk into any marriage thinking it is going to be rosy every minute of every day. Fights still happen, problems still come up and the key to a successful marriage is finding a harmonious way to deal with these things as they come up.


5. Seek pre-marital counseling. It does not mean that you are having problems, but it does mean that you are willing to get professional advice on go into a marriage the right way. Ask for advice on deal with future arguments, and look for advice on ways the two of you can live happily together in marriage.


6. Overcome a fear of marriage by talking to your happily married friends. They can all attest to having jitters before the wedding, and some of them may give you good advice for the wedding and the future.


7. Be brutally honest with yourself, and your future spouse, before the wedding. Understand that your fears may be normal wedding jitters, but that they may also be signs that you aren't ready. Before the wedding, come clean to yourself about these fears and share them to overcome any future problems or troubles in your marriage.
