Medical Technician Schools

A medical technican program may take two years or less to complete.


If you are interested in working in the medical field, and enjoy working with people and technology, consider becoming a medical technician. Many medical technician programs take two years or less. A medical technician conducts research and runs tests such as blood and urine analysis, drug tests or disease research. These tests are essential for the doctor's analysis of patient health. Medical technician jobs include clinical laboratory technician, health information technician, pharmacy technician or X-ray technician. Each of these specialties requires specific training, so it's important to look into all your options before you decide.


University of Phoenix


University of Phoenix offers an Associate of Arts degree in health-care administration with a focus on medical records. Students gain a basic knowledge in record-keeping, patient management, medical terminology and claims processing. Online classes offer a variety of learning tools including online discussion, reading assignments and projects. The program, which is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), is primarily offered online, but classes can be taken in-person at the university's more than 200 campuses nationwide. Financial aid and payment plans are available.


Healthcare Training Institute


Located in Union, New Jersey, the Healthcare Training Institute (HTI) offers students a wide range of degrees and certificates in the health care field. Training is offered for a career as a diagnostic medical sonographer, medical assistant technician, medical billing specialist, patient care technician and many more. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, student loans, or HTI-payment plans. All programs require a high school diploma or GED for entrance. Classes are offered weekdays, nights and weekends, allowing students to work around other schedules. By the end of the program students will have completed between 700 and 1000 hours of training.


Everest College


With numerous campuses and online degree programs, Everest College offers educational opportunities to students across the United States. Degrees are offered in medical assisting and medical insurance billing. These programs prepare students for careers in the medical industry by teaching hands-on skills and providing one-on-one attention from teachers. Students will leave the course with knowledge of medical terminology, bookkeeping, computer skills and the structure and function of major body processes. Many student financing options are available.


Ultimate Medical Academy


The Ultimate Medical Academy has campuses in Tampa and Clearwater, Florida as well as online courses. Weekend and evening programs are available. Associate degrees are offered in medical billing and coding and health sciences. Diploma programs include X-ray technician, medical assistant, nursing assistant, clinical laboratory assistant and pharmacy technician. You can complete most diploma programs in under a year. Along with classroom experience, most programs also provide students with hands-on experience in a working health care facility. Financial aid is available.
