First Day Of School Teacher Gift Bag Ideas

Back-to-school time presents an opportunity to surprise a teacher with a gift bag.

Back-to-school is an exciting time. The children are anxious to get settled in their new classroom. Teachers are excited to meet each new child and to have the opportunity to expand students' minds and horizons on a new grade level. Teachers do not expect gifts at this time. That's why a back-to-school gift is appreciated and cherished. Many ideas can make a gift bag special for any teacher.

Desk Items

Most teachers have used the same desk items--such as knick-knacks, perpetual calendars, pencil holders, files for homework papers and desk drawer organizer tray--for many years. Give a new calendar or pencil holder. Provide a box of new file folders or plastic file holders for the corner of the teacher's desk. Give some brightly colored paper clips of various sizes, buy some of the new shaped rubber bands and also add some interestingly shaped tack-pins for the bulletin board. Give the teacher one or more pairs of scissors and perhaps a new stapler and staple remover. A new desk drawer organizer can replace an older one or make room in another drawer to keep small items close at hand.

Reward Items

Teachers usually purchase reward items for their students. Fill a bag with reward and "good work" stickers in various sizes. Give a treat jar with small candies the teacher can use for rewards or "just because" treats. Buy or collect a variety of reward items such as small toys, bookmarks and desk items for a birthday box or accomplishment treasure box.

Notes and Pads of All Sorts

Teachers use lots of different types of note pads throughout the year.

Many teachers use a lot of various pads of paper, note cards, pens and other items to correspond with other teachers, parents and students. Put sticky notes, note pads and list tablets in a bag. Add some gel pens or other interesting writing utensils. Add some mailable postcards and note cards or stationary. Stickers for decorating notes can be a fun gift for teachers. Postage stamps will be much appreciated for mailable correspondence.

Classroom Items

A teacher might appreciate new wooden hall passes, a new timer for timed tests or bookends for a reading table. A new pointer, chalks or whiteboard markers and erasers will brighten up a chalkboard/whiteboard area.

Just for the Teacher

An umbrella or poncho for rainy days or a cap or visor for sunny days will be appreciated by teachers who supervisor children outdoors or help children to the bus or cars. A new whistle and pocket watch will be a welcomed gift for teachers who take their students outdoors. Flavored coffees or teabags, along with a new mug, will be a personal gift teachers can enjoy.

Memory Book Items

Place picture items in a gift bag for teacher. Provide a photo album or scrapbook and some one-use cameras so teachers don't have to risk losing or breaking a personal camera. Add a gift card to the photo department of a store for developing the pictures. Scrapbooking papers and shape-cut scissors help teachers make a scrapbook the students can also enjoy throughout the year.
