Verizon Install Does Not Detect Dsl Modem

DSL modems transmit digital information through phone lines.

A number of issues could be preventing Verizon software from detecting a DSL modem when. Unlike some other Internet Service Providers, Verizon Internet works with any brand of DSL modem. This means the problem is likely with your computer, connections or modem setup. Make sure your computer and modem are set up, configured and connected properly. That should solve most types of connection issues.

Instructions

1. An Ethernet cable should have been packaged with your DSL modem.

Unplug your DSL modem's power supply for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Unplug both ends the Ethernet cable connecting your modem to your computer and firmly reconnect them, pushing the connector in until you hear a "click." Use the Ethernet cable that came with your DSL modem. The green "Link" light on the modem will be lit up if the connection is good. Wait 2 minutes while the modem tries to reconnect to the Internet, then try installing the software again.

2. Restart your computer if it still isn't detecting the modem and try installing the software again.

3. Install DSL filters on the phones and other devices in your home. Phone signals and DSL signals can interfere with each other if DSL filters have not been installed. Unplug the phones, fax machines, answering machines and other devices connected to phone outlets. Plug a DSL filter into the outlet and plug the phone or other device into the filter. Do not use a DSL filter on your DSL modem. Your DSL modem should have come with several DSL filters; you can buy more at most electronics retailers if you don't have enough.

4. Check the lights on your network card, where you plugged the Ethernet cable into. There should be a solid green light and a flashing yellow light. If the cable is connected securely but there are no lights, you may need to either reinstall or replace the network card. Open "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu, click "Hardware and Sound," then "Device Manager." Double-click the "Network adapters" heading in the "Device Manager" window, right-click on your network card and select "Uninstall." Restart your computer after uninstalling the card; Windows will reinstall fresh drivers. If the card still isn't connecting, you may have to replace it.

5. Connect the modem to a different computer and try installing the software. If it doesn't work there, either, your modem is probably faulty. It will have to be repaired or replaced.
