Manage Fibroids Holistically

Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in many women. According to the Mayo Clinic, uterine fibroids seldom cause serious health problems or require medical treatment. However, they can cause pelvic pain, frequent urination, back pain or heavy menstrual bleeding. Most fibroids go away on their own, so in many cases doctors advise "watchful waiting." You may also be able to treat fibroids yourself with a holistic approach that employs diet and herbs to shrink fibroids away.

Instructions

1. Adopt a vegetarian diet. According to a 2009 article in the Journal of Gynecological Endoscopy and Surgery, consumption of red meat was a predisposing factor in developing fibroids, as were excess weight and high blood pressure.

2. Take skullcap, an herb that Chinese and western herbalists recommend for female complaints. You can buy skullcap in bulk at some health food stores. Make a tea from 1 oz. of skullcap in 2 cups of water daily. A 2004 study published in the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer found that skullcap inhibited the growth of uterine fibroid cells.

3. Drink green tea. According to a review of its beneficial effects published in 2006 in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, green tea helps reduce growth of fibroids and also helps burn fat and lower blood pressure.
