Get Health Care Coverage With Preexisting Conditions

If you have preexisting conditions such as diabetes, cancer or even obesity, it can be difficult to find health insurance. There are ways that you can find insurance, although you may end up paying a higher rate than someone who does not have those conditions. The best way to find health insurance is to find a group plan. There are a variety of places to look for these plans, and they are often less expensive then private health insurance.

Instructions

1. Check with your employer and your spouse's employer to see if they offer group health care. You may need to wait for an open enrollment period to apply for this insurance, but you can also apply if you have a qualifying event such as getting married, divorced or a having a new baby. Losing your current coverage also counts as a qualifying event.

2. Complete the application and pay the premium. They may place a waiting period on preexisting conditions if you did not have insurance when you applied to the plan. You can waive the waiting period if you submit proof of insurance coverage. You can have these statements mailed to you from your old insurance company.

3. Consider purchasing group insurance through an organization that you belong to. This may be a union or a professional association in which you hold membership. These organizations are often comprised of freelancers and work to offer affordable group health coverage. This option is more expensive than going through your employer's plan where they may pay for a portion of your premium.

4. Look at private insurance companies. Some companies will offer insurance at a higher monthly premium for certain preexisting conditions. If you are sick, more expensive insurance is better than no insurance at all. You may want to visit a health insurance broker who can access a variety of health insurance plans offered in your state.

5. Apply for government assistance or government health insurance. Some conditions are automatically covered regardless of your income in some states. If you are disabled from your medical condition you may also qualify.
