Homemade Purple Ribbon Ideas

Wearing a purple ribbon can help to raise awareness for domestic violence.

Purple ribbons help to raise awareness for various causes, such as domestic violence, pancreatic cancer, animal abuse, Alzheimer's disease, tyhyroid cancer and 9/11 victims. Wearing a ribbon shows your support for survivors as well as your investment in finding a solution or cure.

Purple Ribbon

The most well-known way to support your cause is to wear a purple ribbon on your shirt. Cut a two inch piece of ribbon. Loop the ribbon around to create the classic symbol. Use a safety pin to attach the ribbon to a shirt or clothing accessory. You can also use a purple ribbon in a nontraditional way by creating a headband out of it or attaching it to your shoelaces.

Flowers

Tying a purple ribbon to flowers is a sincere way to raise awareness and sympathy. Flowers, such as white roses, can represent 'new beginnings'. By attaching a purple ribbon to a white rose, you are combining the two meanings. This can be useful when honoring a loved one that survived one of the conditions that purple ribbons represent. At funerals, flowers can also be wrapped with purple paper or purple ribbons to symbolize what the deceased died from while raising awareness for survivors.

Tote Bags

If you want to raise awareness on a daily basis, using the symbol of the purple ribbon might be easier than attaching a ribbon to your shirt each morning. You can print purple ribbons onto common accessories to achieve the same effect. For example, you can purchase or make a tote bag, then iron-on an image of a purple ribbon to the front. This provides a way to create something useful and symbolic at the same time.

Wristbands

Plastic wristbands have become a popular trend to support causes. To use this idea, create a purple wristband. You can tie a purple ribbon around your wrist for a fast solution. To make a more durable wristband that you don't have to take off, braid together three pieces of purple ribbon or yarn, then tie the braid around your wrist. You can also tie a purple ribbon bow to a favorite bracelet.
