Radiologic Technology Continuing Education


Continuing education is mandatory for Radiological Technologists. Each Radiological Technologist certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists must complete twenty-four credit hours with a minimum of twelve Category A credits. Credits can be attained through online courses, home study programs, and attending qualified conferences.


Online Courses


Continuing education courses for Radiological Technologist are available via the Internet through the American Society of Radiological Technologists (ASRT) website. The online continuing education link provided on the ASRT website will take the user to the Philips Learning Center which is an authorized training provider for the ASRT. New users will need to register in order to receive login information. Once you become a member, you can search for the appropriate training section. After selecting a learning industry, you will have the option to choose learning methods. Philips Learning Center offers archived lectures, webcasts, and multimedia tools. After finding the course of interest, you can read the course description including the credits offered and make the purchase.


Online Credits


Credits will be given after passing the course with a 75 percent or higher. Most courses allow you to access the test up to 6 months from the purchase date. Before the class expires, you have a maximum of 3 times to try to pass the test. If the test is not passed after three times, the course will no longer be accessible. Upon passing, you will have access to your printable certificates for four years.


Home Study


Radiological Technologists who prefer offline study methods can use CD-ROMS from the ASRT to facilitate learning. This method of training comes with practice quizzes to analyze information retention and verify learning objectives. Tests will also accompany the learning packet and must be submitted by mail for grading.


Home Study Credits


Home study credits can also be received through the Directed Reading program offered by the ASRT journals. With a continual membership, radiological technologists will earn twelve Category A continuing education credits. Quizzes following the readings can be taken and submit online or taken at home and mailed for results. If the quiz is submitted online, you will be notified immediately of a passing or failing grade. At-home quizzes will take up to thirty days for scores to be received. you must score a 75 percent or higher to receive credits.


Conferences


Conferences must be accredited by the appropriate state's department to determine its eligibility as a credit-worthy program. Conferences typically last a number of days and house a variety of training specialties. You should check your state's listing for crediting conferences.
