Radiologic Technology Programs In South Carolina

Several South Carolina schools offer radiologic technology programs.

Radiologic technologists work with medical equipment on patients to produce medical diagnostic images for the use of the physician. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that an associate’s degree in radiologic technology is the most prevalent level of education among professionals in this field. South Carolina has a number of institutions that offer educational opportunities in radiologic technology.

Greenville Technical College

Greenville Technical College offers a two-phase radiologic technology program. The first phase consists of eight general education courses and must be completed either on a part-time or full-time schedule prior to beginning the second phase, which includes the major courses in the field. The curriculum within this program meets the standards of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. The second phase of this program requires a full-time commitment over five semesters during the daytime. Students are required to complete some clinical requirements during the evening or weekends throughout the program. Courses include introduction to radiography, radiographic imaging, radiographic physics, radiation biology and fluoroscopic procedures.

A limited number of students are admitted into this program every year, and other students must put themselves on the waiting list; the typical waiting period can be from two to three years. Students complete the program in six semesters over the course of two years beginning with the summer semester. Courses include radiology patient care procedures, radiographic imaging, radiographic physics, radiographic procedures and radiation biology.
