Colleges In Redding California

There are three private four-year colleges located in Redding, California, a city of approximately 90,000 located in Shasta County in the northern part of the Sacramento Valley, 150 miles north of Sacramento. Redding has one public two-year community college, Shasta College. There are no public four-year colleges or universities in Redding.


Simpson University


Simpson University is a four-year Christian liberal arts and professional studies college founded in 1921 as Simpson Bible Institute in Seattle, Washington. The college moved to San Francisco in 1955 and then to Redding in 1989. The university offers 24 undergraduate majors, including six majors --- Bible and Theology, Discipleship and Education Ministries, General Ministries, Pastoral Studies, World Missions and Youth Ministries --- directly related to Christian ministry work. Graduate degrees in education and counseling psychology are also available.


National University


Redding is home to one of National University's regional campuses. National University, headquartered in La Jolla, California, is the second-largest private nonprofit institution of higher learning in the state. The Redding campus of National University consists of three professional schools: the School of Business and Management, the School of Education, and the College of Letters and Sciences. Degrees can be earned in accountancy, teacher education, criminal justice administration, psychology and counseling psychology. An MBA and other graduate degrees are also offered.


Shasta Bible College and Graduate School


A four-year Baptist-denominational college and graduate school, Shasta Bible College and Graduate School's slogan is "equipping Christian leaders for the 21st century." The school has two undergraduate departments: the Department of Bible Theology and the Department of Christian Teacher Education. Graduate programs are offered in school and church administration, counseling, Christian family life and ministries. Distance-learning education is available, and an outreach program assists public and private school students in reading and math studies.


Shasta College


Shasta College is Redding's two-year public community college and the fourth-largest employer in Redding. Founded in 1948 and opening its first campus in 1950, the college now has campuses located throughout Shasta County and in nearby Tehama and Trinity Counties. There are 44 associate's degree majors and 64 certificate programs available; academic divisions include the division of Natural Resources, Industry and Public Safety, as well as more traditional divisions such as Arts and Communications, Health Sciences, and Business and Technology.
