Digital Signage For Schools

Digital displays can be seen at almost every kind of business, but what about schools? Applications for digital displays in schools are gaining momentum as school districts look for ways to cut costs and communicate more effectively with students and parents. Digital display systems can have a wide range in costs, depending on the system the school wants designed, but, with time, the system has the potential to pay for itself.

Applications

The potential applications for digital displays have quite a range. One example of this range is that there is a display at the school's front that relays game times and upcoming conference information to parents. Displays can be mounted in the hallways to inform students of the week's lunch menu, upcoming events and discipline policy reminders, as well as daily announcements. Use graphics on the display to promote school spirit and build a unity among the student body. Displays in the cafeteria or auditorium can display information relating to an assembly, announcements for parents or any other information.

Enhanced Communication

Digital displays can replay messages to the student body throughout the day. This is a more efficient way of communicating to the students compared to printing fliers with the same information that gets handed to them once. The digital displays will reduce the amount of paper and toner the school will use, which will save the school money that would have been spent on print communications to students. Fewer fliers also means less paper waste. Information can be made available to the entire student body at the same time instantly.

Programming

Digital displays are controlled through a software program, included with the display. Display manufacturers develop their own control software, so the functionality of it can vary between manufacturers. A central computer is established at the administration offices. Most of the time, the computer can be used for functions other than just sign control. Messages are entered in the software and scheduled for when they should appear on the display. Most software control systems have been designed to be user-friendly and operate on a Windows-based platform.

Cost

Cost is always a concern for schools, especially when bringing in new technology that could be argued as not being needed. But, with the improved communication that digital signage can create between faculty and students, the signs can actually help reduce communication expenses. Digital displays at the school property's perimeter can inform the public about games and other events occurring at the school, resulting in improved ticket and concession sales. The school can generate revenue by creating partnerships with local businesses looking for opportunities to improve their public image.
