A Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology prepares students for careers in hospitals and clinics. Students in this program learn to take images of the inside of a patient's body. These images are used to help medical professionals diagnose and treat ailments and injuries. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) examination and become certified in the field.
East
Fairleigh Dickson University (www.fdu.edu) is located in Madison, New Jersey, and offers a B.S. in Radiologic Technology through The Henry P. Becton School of Nursing and Allied Health. In addition to courses in radiographic procedures, pathology, radiographic exposure and radiation biology, students also must complete a seminar and practicum in the field.
Students enrolled at Clarion University (www.clarion.edu) have an opportunity to pursue a bachelor's degree in medical imaging science with a concentration in radiologic technology. The Pennsylvania school offers both an on-campus and an online degree program in the field. The online program is for current radiologic technologists looking to continue their education and training in the field.
Midwest
Wayne State University (http://wayne.edu) offers the only accredited Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology in the state of Michigan. The program is available through the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and students are able to complete an internship at the Henry Ford Hospital. Students have an opportunity to work in emergency room departments and orthopedics.
Located in Wisconsin, Marian University (www.marianuniversity.edu) offers a degree-completion bachelor's program in radiologic technology. The program is designed for those who have already completed an associate degree program in the field and want to continue their education. Students also have the option to minor in areas such as business, information management and organizational communication.
West
Colorado Technical University (www.coloradotech.edu) is located in Colorado Springs and offers a bachelor's degree in radiologic technology. Students must have an associate degree in an allied health field to enter the program. Graduates are qualified for management within radiologic technology departments and gain skills in leadership, financing and human resource management.
The Oregon Institute of Technology (www.oit.edu) has a bachelor's degree program in radiologic sciences that includes a variety of concentrations in the field. Students have the option of pursuing specialities in mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), portable radiography and fluoroscopy. Graduates of all programs are prepared for certification with the ARRT.
South
The University of Louisiana at Monroe (www.ulm.edu) offers an online bachelor's degree in radiologic technology. In addition to general education requirements, core curriculum courses, electives and certification credits, students must also complete 67 practicum credits at a local medical facility. While students can choose to complete the practicum near their home, the facility must be approved by the Radiologic Technology Department of the College of Health Sciences.
The Department of Health Sciences at California State University, Northridge (www.csun.edu) offers a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology. Imaging specializations at the college include cardiovascular imaging, CT and MRI. In addition to the bachelor's degree program, students can also pursue certificate opportunities in these fields.
