Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologists perform diagnostic imaging in a hospital or medical clinic. According to the Oregon Employment Department, the employment outlook for MRI technologists in Oregon is expected to increase by 23.5 percent by 2018. The average annual salary for an MRI technologist is $60,536. The minimum level of training to become an MRI technologist is an associates degree, but employers prefer a bachelor's degree in radiologic technology. There are two schools within forty-five miles of Salem that provide MRI training.

Portland Community College offers an associate of applied science in radiography and a nine-month certificate in MRI technologist training. Portland Community College's radiography degree program is nationally accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
