Troubleshoot The Kodak 5500 Scanner

When the Kodak 5500 scanner malfunctions--like when the paper jams or images come out wrong--it may not be necessary to call in a repair person to correct the issue. The machine may simply need a minor adjustment. If the scanner isn't turning on, the first thing to do is see if the machine is turned on and the power cord pushed securely into the receptacle and plugged into a working electrical outlet.

Instructions

1. Adjust the feed and separator roller gap or clean the feed and separator roller gap. Do this if the documents are not feeding properly.

2. Reposition the feed shelf or adjust the feed shelf side guides and end stop. This is necessary when documents continue to feed improperly.

3. Realign the exit hopper side guides and end stop to correct improperly stacking documents.

4. Adjust the guides and feeder roller, and jog the lead edges of the document stack to correct images with missing edges.

5. Close the vertical baffle plate securely when the edges of the image are jagged.

6. Adjust the guides and feed roller if the scanner is experiencing repeated jamming.

7. Clean the image and transport area, looking for pieces of paper, if the scanned images are streaked or distorted. This typically occurs after a paper jam.

8. Clean the exposure lamp housings, clean the image guides or calibrate the scanner. Do this when the image is too light, dark or uneven.

9. Check the lamps to verify they are securely in the lamp socket holders. This is necessary if you repeatedly receive a low-lamp error message.
