Nevada Medical Assistant Schools

Medical assistant jobs in the U.S. will grow 34 percent by 2018, says the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.


Employment of medical assistants in the United States is expected to grow 34 percent from 2008 to 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Several schools in Nevada have accredited programs that prepare students to take the certification examinations after full- or part-time study. They include classroom study as well as hands-on experience in medical labs or doctors' offices.


College of Southern Nevada


The medical office assistant program at The College of Southern Nevada is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. The coursework helps prepare students to qualify to take the the National Registration examination to become certified medical assistants. Prospective students are not required to submit an application for admissions, but should visit one of the two campuses in Nevada to begin the open enrollment process. Full-time students usually complete the program in a year or three semesters, while part-time students usually graduate in five semesters.


Kaplan College Las Vegas Campus


Kaplan College is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. This medical assistant training and diploma program offers students a combination of clinical and medical-office training courses. The clinical courses are taught in medical-training labs in order to replicate a real-life office experience. The training gives students an opportunity to learn administrative and computer skills. Before graduation, they are required to participate in an externship at a local health-care facility.


Northwest Health Careers


Northwest Health Careers in Las Vegas provides full- or part-time medical assistant training as certified by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. Students are taught by licensed physicians in lecture halls, laboratories and front-desk offices equipped with computers. Hands-on externships prior to graduation offer students experience in doctors' offices, health clinics and other medical facilities.


Pima Medical Institute


Pima Medical Institute in Las Vegas is certified by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. Students enrolled in its program can graduate in nine months prepared to take the examination for certification as a medical assistant. Students are trained to work with physicians and patients in examining-room preparation, lab work and other routine office procedures.
