Create Your Own Restaurant Sign

Restaurant signage needs to fit the building architecture and communicate a quick and effective message.

To attract customers to your restaurant, you need a sign that stands out and expresses the attractiveness of the food and atmosphere you offer. Your sign is a personal advertising message. It will brand you and make an impression on your customers. Illuminate your signage. Keep your restaurant sign lit all day and night to announce your location and service. And be mindful of local codes that may regulate sign size and otherwise control signage particulars.

Instructions

1. Choose an original logo to distinguish your restaurant and cuisine. Keep it simple so it does not detract from the written message.

2. Position your sign so it is visible from a distance. Make it large enough to be noticed by both pedestrians and drivers.

3. Work with bold colors for images and lettering. Be aware that bright colors generally communicate fast service whereas muted tones imply a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Keep a consistent color palette throughout your signage.

4. Apply colors that contrast so they are visually separate from the background.

5. For text use both upper- and lower-case letters. This makes the words easier to read than all capital letters.

6. Use simple fonts without extra curls and fancy adornments. Ornate type is hard to read quickly or from a distance.

7. Keep your type bold. Thin fonts are hard to read.

8. Use a few words to communicate your message, especially if the sign is to be read by motorists. If people will be closer to the sign to read it, you can include more information.
