A bone spur is a growth that has developed over your bone as a reaction to some sort of stress. Bone spurs in shoulders are usually the result of the rotaor cuff rubbing on the bone. As time goes by, the repetitive motion may begin to deteriorate the bone, causing the body to repair itself by forming another bone on top of the damaged area. This new bone is considered a bone spur. If the bone spur begins to cause you considerable pain and limits your range of motion, consider having it surgically removed.
Instructions
1. Take an anti-inflammatory medication, like ibuprofen or aspirin.
2. Get corticosteroid injections. These injections reduce inflammation caused by the spur and ease pain.
3. Consult your doctor about a surgical procedure. The only way to actually remove a bone spur is to have the growth surgically removed from the bone.
4. Begin physical therapy. After your surgical procedure, physical therapy will strengthen your shoulder and help you regain a full range of motion.
