NICU nursing schools train nurses to care for newborn infants in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Infants in a NICU are generally admitted within the first 28 days of life and cannot be treated in a traditional neonatal nursery due to serious health complications. NICU nursing schools are located throughout the country.
Regis University
Regis University, located in Denver, Colo., offers a Master's degree program for students wishing to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. The program allows students up to five years to complete their degree program. Neonatal nursing students are required to complete 43 semester hours in order to graduate the program. An optional thesis may be completed with an additional six semester hours.

Rush University School of Nursing
Rush University School of Nursing, located in Chicago, Ill., offers a Master's degree program with a concentration in Neonatal Nursing. Most of the program can be completed online, with two days during each of the three neonatal specialty courses to be competed on campus. A Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialty care program is also available to neonatal nursing students, which prepares students to care for children with acute and chronic health conditions.

University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing, located in Kansas City, Mo., can be competed online, with two two-day residencies required during the program. Courses within the program are also available to students in the Master's of Nursing programs at South Dakota State University, University of Iowa and the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. Forty-three credit hours are required to compete the neonatal nursing program.

Creighton University School of Nursing, located in Omaha, Neb., accepts applications on a rolling basis from potential students with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing. The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program prepares students to work in level III neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The program requires 675 hours of clinical practice, which includes a 300-hour residency, to complete the Neonatal Nursing program.
