Convert Pdf Files To Tiff

A file in PDF (Portable Document Format) can be converted to a high quality TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) file using software included in the Windows or Macintosh operating systems. For Macintosh, this is a one step process. For Windows, the PDF file first becomes a JPG, then is converted to a TIFF. You can also use online conversion tools, or commercial software that is specifically designed to convert PDF file types to TIFF.

Instructions

Converting PDF with Preview (Macintosh only)

1. Open the Preview application that comes with OS X, then open the PDF file (File menu--Open).

2. Select Save As... from the File menu.

3. Choose TIFF as the format option. Click Save.

4. Move to the next page in the PDF document and repeat Steps 2 and 3. Preview saves each PDF page as an individual TIFF file.

Convert PDF with Grab (Macintosh only)

5. Open the PDF file on your Macintosh, either with Preview or another PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat.

6. Set the magnification and resize the window to how you want your TIFF to look.

7. Open the Grab utility, located in the Applications--Utilities folder. This tool is used for taking screen shots of the Macintosh screen.

8. Click the Capture menu and choose the type of screen shot you want. Window will copy the PDF document window, Screen will capture everything showing on the monitor, and Selection allows you to drag over only the piece of the PDF page you want to make into a TIFF.

9. Select Save As from the FIle menu and your screen shot is automatically saved as a TIFF file.

10. Move to the next page of your PDF file and repeat the screen shot process to turn as many pages as you need into TIFF files.

Convert PDF with Snipping Tool (Windows only)Add Folder to Gallery and locate the folder containing your JPG screen shots of the PDF file. They will appear as a row of thumbnails on the screen.

19. Double-click a JPG thumbnail and select Paint from the Open menu.

20. Click on File menu--Save As and choose TIFF from the Save as Type drop down menu at the bottom of the screen. Click save and you now have your PDF page converted to TIFF. Repeat Steps 9 and 10 for the other JPG files.

Tips Warnings

Many Windows graphics programs can read JPG and save as TIFF, so you could use those to convert your screen shots to TIFF instead of the Photo Gallery and Paint process.
