Print A Picture For A Locket

Print a Picture for a Locket

Putting pictures in a locket is a great way to keep loved ones close to your heart in a more literal sense. If you don't want to cut up photo hard copies, scanning your pictures and printing out a copy of the photo is a good alternative. Adjusting the photo to locket size is easier than it may initially seem, with the help of a good photo editor.

Instructions

Locket Picture Printing

1. Scan your desired image into your computer, if it is not already saved there. To do so, connect your scanner to your computer and place your photo on the scanner bed face-down. Press the scan button on your scanner, or open the scanner software on the computer and click scan. Once the image has been scanned, save it to your hard drive.

2. Measure your locket. Use either a ruler or a tape measure to measure the size of the picture insert space in your locket. Write these measurements down, or open a notepad program on your computer and type them there.

3. Open your photo editing software. Photoshop, Gimp, or Microsoft Paint will all work. You can also find an online image editor if you don't have photo editing software installed on your computer. Once the software is up and running, use it to load your selected photo.

4. Crop your image to show only the most relevant parts. Because a locket is relatively small, it is recommended that you focus only on the face or faces of the subject(s) in the picture rather than putting in the whole photo. That way, the subject is still visible rather than being shrunk down to an unrecognizable image.

5. Resize your photo file to fit the measurements you took of your locket. Most photo editing tools allow you to change measurements to inches or millimeters for convenience. If your editing program doesn't, try holding the locket up to the screen to get a better sense of how big the image should be. Once the image has been edited and resized, save the file.

6. Turn your printer on and insert paper into it. Using photo paper is best, as it is heavier and more like an actual photograph than regular paper. Be sure to check your printer's ink levels so you don't wind up with a half-faded image. After ensuring that your printer is ready, choose Print from within your photo editor. A print preview should pop up. Double-check that the picture is the size and shape that you want. If it is, go ahead and print your picture.

7. Cut your picture out from the excess paper. After cutting it, press it into your locket. Using a pair of tweezers may make it easier to get it in securely.

Tips Warnings

To keep from wasting expensive printer paper, you may want to do a test printing on regular computer paper to make sure the picture is the right size and looks the way you want.
