Ladies Golf Tournament Theme Ideas

Tournament themes add variety to golf matches.

After years of playing, women golfers may find that standard tournaments become a little mundane. One way of spicing things up is to deploy a theme that affects how golfers dress, how they play or even mid-tournament refreshments. Themes don't have to be expensive and can help bring players together and revitalize interest in golfing tournaments.

Superheroines

Outlandish costumes don't necessarily add up to adequate golf playing, but it's hard to go too far wrong when the players are dressed as their favorite superheroines - or even superheroes. Golfers can enjoy donning masks and capes and becoming well-recognized heroines such as Wonder Woman or Batgirl, and attendees can even create their own character and turn up in an invented costume. The tournament play itself can incorporate this theme. For example, excellent shots such as holes-in-one could be rewarded with small but super prizes.

Golf in History

For a noticeable departure from modern women's golf, you can employ a historical theme. Players should meet beforehand to decide on an era of golf to re-create through the tournament. The clothes, refreshments and - if the players are confident enough - the mannerisms of this era can then be re-created through the tournament. For example, the tournament could be themed around the Victorian age in England, with the women dressed in large-brimmed hats and long skirts. During intervals between matches, the organizers can serve up food and drinks to match the theme; for instance, for a Victorian England tournament, neat sandwiches on platters would be appropriate.

Wedding

If one of the ladies is about to get hitched - or even if not - an extravagant wedding theme can be a joy. The players don't have to wear wedding dresses on the green, but choosing one player to don a veil while others adopt garments to represent roles such as the bridesmaids and the mother of the bride can be fun. Players should wear lots of jewelry such as rings and pearls. After each round, players can celebrate with a glass of Champagne.

Fund-raising

Incorporating fund-raising into the golf action is a more subtle way of adding a theme than other options, but mixes fun with helping a good cause. Players meet and decide on a charity or a few organizations they'd like to support through the tournament. In each match, players can collect money in a number of ways. For example, one player might be sponsored so that if she completes the course in a certain number of shots, she receives a set amount of money. A different player could carry a tin, with the stipulation that every time a player goes above par, she has to put a dollar in the tin.
