Craftsman Power Washer Problems

Craftsman is well known for the quality of their products and their exceptional warranty program. With over 80 years in business, you can count on product reliability and excellent customer service. Craftsman power washers come in a variety of sizes ranging from small units suitable for cleaning your car or sidewalk, to large professional models designed to handle tougher jobs. Power washers can be electric or gas powered. Craftsman power washers consistently receive high marks in customer satisfaction; however, as with any piece of machinery you may experience occasional mechanical problems.

Engine Will Not Start

If your power washer will not start, check the gasoline level and add more if necessary. You may have a problem with a bad spark plug or one of the wires attached to the spark plug may be loose. There may be a problem with the power washer over-choking, open the choke completely and crank the engine.

Detergent Not Mixing With Spray

If your detergent is not mixing correctly, ensure that the detergent siphoning tool is submerged in the solution. You should also check the chemical filter for cracks or clogs and replace if necessary and make sure that the in-line filter is not clogged. The detergent will not mix correctly unless you have the low pressure hose attached.

Engine Runs Rough

If the engine runs roughs or coughs and sputters you may need to add oil. Stale gasoline or gasoline that has water mixed with it should be drained completely. Check the air filter, if it appears dirty, replace it. Another possible cause is the gas/oil mixture is too rich for the machine. This will require assistance from an authorized service center.

Problems With Pump Pressure

Problems associated with the pump pressure will cause the power washer to have little or no water pressure, sputter while spraying or produce little or no water. These problems may be caused by a blocked water inlet or the inlet hose itself may be kinked or leaking. The strainer on the inlet hose may also be blocked. Make sure the high pressure nozzle is attached and there are no leaks in the hose or handle. In addition, ensure that there is enough water being supplied to the unit and that the water temperature is below 100 degrees Fahrenheit. If none of these solve the problem, you probably have a faulty pump and need to contact an authorized service center.

Lack of Power

If your power washer does not seem to have as much power as usual, your air filter may be clogged. Replace the air filter and the unit should resume normal power.

Maintenance

Routine regular maintenance can significantly improve the function and life of your pressure washer. Before each use inspect the hoses and the trigger assembly for leaks, clean the water inlet screen, clean dirt and debris off unit and purge the lines to remove any air. Make sure to keep the unit from freezing when temperature drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
