Ultrasound Technician Schools In Florida

Ultrasound uses sound waves to record images.

Ultrasound technicians use high-frequency sound waves to take pictures of the inside of the body. These images help doctors determine the presence of cysts, tumors and other abnormalities. Ultrasound technicians need specialized training to use scanning equipment properly and take high-quality images. Several ultrasound technician schools in Florida provide the training necessary to begin a career in this field.

Broward College

Broward College offers two ultrasound technician programs. The certificate program takes 13 to 14 months to complete, while the associate degree program takes 24 months to complete. The college gives preference to those who have completed a radiological technology program, but also considers physical therapy professionals, registered nurses and nuclear medicine technologists. Major courses in both programs include sonography of the circulatory system, abdominal sonography, OB-GYN sonography and small parts sonography. Successful completion of this accredited program allows students to sit for the OB/GYN, abdomen and physics and instrumentation examinations offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
