Pink Ribbon Events In Wilmington N C

The pink ribbon is a symbol of breast cancer awareness.

Pink Ribbon International is an organization that supports breast cancer awareness and treatment. Pink Ribbon has numerous local chapters across the U.S. and the Pink Ribbon Project organizes a variety of events to raise money and promote awareness. In Wilmington, North Carolina, the Pink Ribbon Project often pairs with the New Hanover Medical Center to organize its events. These events are held in the month of October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast, Luncheon and Dinner

The annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast, Luncheon and Dinner event is held in October. In its 13th year in 2010, it was held at the Holiday Inn Resort on Wrightsville Beach. The event featured author Mary Alice Monroe as a speaker and Jane Faudree as its local artist. Proceeds from this annual event support the Pink Ribbon Comfort Bags Program which provides care packages to women being treated for cancer. Proceeds also support mammograms for low-income women.

Angie's Amazing Race

Angie's Amazing Race is held in honor of Angie Holiday who died of breast cancer in 2006. This annual scavenger hunt is in October. The cost is $25 per person, and the event raises money for the local Pink Ribbon Project.

Tri-Sports

The Tri-Sports 5k race is held in nearby Mayfaire. The second year of this annual event occurred in October 2010. Prizes are given for winning first through third place in the race, and proceeds from the event support the local Pink Ribbon Project.

Annual Pink Chick Parade

Held in October to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this event takes place at the Forum boutiques and restaurants. Sponsors buy 5-foot tall pink chicks for $125, the cost of a mammogram, to join in the parade. The chicks can be customized to honor a loved one. Proceeds help the Pink Ribbon Project.

Tournaments

Open to female members, the Country Club Landfall Pink Ribbon Tournaments take place each year in October and include two events: a tennis tournament and a golf tournament. The Pine Valley Country Club Womens Golf Association tournament and luncheon is also open to all members and, in 2010, took place on October 19 as did the Steel Magnolias Play for Pink Tournament and Awards Banquet, which is open to members of the Magnolia Greens Womens Golf Association.
