Make Burns With Costume Makeup

Some paints used as costume makeup can create realistic-looking blood or wounds such as burns.

Costume makeup can be used for Halloween, theater plays and to create certain looks on sets for movies. Costume makeup includes a variety of body paints, prosthetic limbs and materials to create temporary skin grafts. You can use cosmetic materials such as liquid latex to shape and form your own prosthetics. Body paints used in a variety of colors can create realistic looking blood, bruises and burns. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide the area on the body that you want to create the burn mark with liquid latex. Latex may cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Apply a very small amount of liquid latex to the skin and see if any reactions occur within 10 minutes of the application. If not then proceed with the rest of the steps.

2. Use the medium size paint brush to apply liquid latex to the skin. The liquid latex may run, so apply a small amount first and then apply more as needed.

3. Allow the liquid latex to dry on the skin. Apply another layer of liquid latex to give the skin a sort of raised appearance. Use the bristle part of the brush to lightly pat down the liquid adhesive, so the burn mark appears realistic instead of smoothed down to the skin. Let the liquid latex dry all the way.

4. Pour a small amount of liquid foundation into a small dish. Make sure that the foundation is the same color as your skin.

5. Brush the foundation onto the dried silicone. Blend the foundation onto the skin surrounding the latex to make the burn appear more realistic. Let the foundation dry.

6. Use the medium-size brush to apply the red theater paint on the wound. Do not apply the paint all over the silicone. Use the brush to dab splotches of red paint as blood to the wound. Allow some of the skin-colored silicone to show, so the appear will be natural.

7. Mix the black and red paint together. Use a fine paint brush to paint smaller splotches of the black-red paint onto the painted silicone. This will make the silicone appear as if parts of it burned. Let the paint dry.
