Become A First Grade Teacher

Become a First Grade Teacher

The number of schools in the United States is growing. The first schools were started in the 1600s and there were only a handful at that time. Currently, there are close to 100,000 schools in the United States. As the number of schools is growing, so is the need for teachers. Elementary teachers are often in short supply and colleges are making it easier to get a degree in education. It takes about four years to become a teacher.

Instructions

1. Decide which college you want to attend and apply. If you need help applying, make an appointment with an admissions officer.

2. Visit the school's financial aid office to learn what financial aid is available and apply for financial aid if you do not have the funds to pay for college.

3. Check with the college of education to find out its admission requirements. Apply for admission once you have met the admission requirements.

4. Complete student teaching and complete all courses required for graduation. Remember to get references from the school where you worked as a student teacher.

5. Register and take the teacher certification test for elementary grades K-6.

6. Visit your local school district upon graduation. You will need to forward your transcripts to the school district and fill out the necessary paperwork. After you have completed these steps, seek out job openings in schools and set up interviews.
