According to the PayScale Report as of September 2010, sonographers make a base hourly rate of $22.56 to $32.18 per hour, with overtime of $33.32 to $48.18. Adding bonuses and profit sharing equals a total annual salary range of $46,933 to $68,733.
Experience
New sonographers receive $35,000 to $50,333 per year. At one to four years of experience, they receive $39,341 to $59,023, and at five to nine years, they get $44,176 to $65,000. At 10 to 19 years, they make $54,994 to $72,653, and at 20 years or more, they earn $59,726 to $81,383.
Location
Earnings vary by salary with Seattle offering the highest rates at $54,045 to $92,845, followed by Orlando at $29,479 to $81,310. At the lower end are Miami at $27,500 to $56,820 and Atlanta at $39,663 to $65,837.
