Radiology Programs In Wichita Kansas

Students in radiology become familiar with x-ray technology.


Entering into a career in radiology can lead to work with sonography, mammography or computed tomography (CT). While becoming a radiologist requires extensive education, typically four years beyond medical school, there are also careers in the field that only require two to four years of training. Residents of Wichita interested in radiology can get training in their city on the associate's, bachelor's and post-graduate levels.


The University of Kansas School of Medicine


The University of Kansas School of Medicine offers a diagnostic radiology residency programs for students who have successfully completed medical school and want to continue their education in radiology. The four-year program accepts three applicants each year. Students complete their clinical rotations at Wesley Medical Center and Cypress Imaging Center, both located in Wichita. Clinical rotations are four weeks in duration and cover a variety of specialties within diagnostic radiology, including mammography, ultrasound and pediatric radiology. Most specialties require the completion of multiple four-week rotations. All students must also partake in on-call responsibilities at Wesley Medical Center for the duration of the program.

Friends University


Friends University awards a bachelor of science degree in radiologic technology that can be completed in four years. Students may elect to take two years of study at Friends University and then transfer to another to another institution and complete an associate program in radiology. Students who elect this option may transfer all credits back to Friends University when they finish and the school will issue them a bachelor's degree. Program participants may also complete their entire degree at Friends University. In addition to completing general education courses, 62 units of core major-specific classes are required. Radiologic technology core curriculum includes cellular and molecular biology, general chemistry and anatomy.

Newman University


Newman University offers an associate-level degree in radiological technology. The two-year program is comprised of 62 units and includes two eight-week summer sessions. First-year curriculum includes introduction to radiology, radiologic positioning and medical terminology. In the second year of study, students take classes that include radiological imaging and radiologic pathology. Students also complete clinical requirements, which begin in the fall semester of the first year. At the end of the program all students must pass a comprehensive exam.
