Salary Of Radiology Technologists In Florida

The need for radiology technologists in Florida will increase by more than 13 percent from 2008 through 2018, creating more than 2,000 new jobs, predicts the State of Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation. Radiology technologists in Florida averaged salaries of $51,180 per year as of May 2009, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Salaries in Florida were around 6 percent below the nationwide average of $54,180. Rates of pay for radiology technologists in Florida varied widely throughout the state with many regions featuring salaries below the statewide average.


Northern Florida


In northern Florida, average annual salaries for radiology technologists were 1 to 10 percent below the statewide average as of May 2009, explains BLS. Gainesville featured the highest average wages in the region for radiology techs at $50,830. Jacksonville techs made an average of $49,500, while those in Tallahassee averaged $46,680 annually. The area comprised of Fort Walton, Crestview and Denton had the lowest average annual wages in northern Florida at $46,080.


West Central Florida


Punta Gorda had the highest concentration of radiology technologists in comparison to its population of any major metropolitan area in the United States as of May 2009, reports BLS. Average annual wages in Punta Gorda were $56,730, making techs in the city the highest paid in west central Florida. Wages in the region were generally at or above the statewide averages with the exception of Lakeland-Winter Haven area. Technologists employed in the area made an average of $49,130 per year, approximately 4 percent below the Florida average.


East Central Florida


At $54,360 per year, Palm Coast had the highest average wages for radiology technologists in all of east central Florida as of May 2009, reports BLS. Throughout the remainder of the region, average annual salaries were 1 to 12 percent below the statewide average. Port St. Lucie radiology techs earned an average of $49,800 per year, while those in the Orland-Kissimmee region averaged $45,250. The Deltona, Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach area had the lowest wages for radiology techs not just in the region, but the entire state at $45,120 per year.


Southern Florida


As of May 2009, wages for radiology techs in southern Florida averaged 1 to 12 percent above the statewide average rate of pay, explains BLS. The Naples and Marco Island area had the highest wages for technologists statewide at $57,540. In Fort Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach, radiology techs made an average of $55,680. Technologists working in the area comprised of Miami, Miami Beach and Kendall were the lowest paid in southern Florida at $51,870 annually.
