Make Simlife Go Faster

While SimLife does not require massive amounts of hard drive space or a high-end graphics card with large amounts of dedicated memory, the game's performance is still very much dependent upon the amount of free computer resources available to it. Fortunately, there are a number of performance tweaks that can lead to enhanced game performance that do not require making upgrades to the actual computer. Further, these tweaks can all be completed with minimal technical know-how.

Instructions

1. Clear the hard drive of all unnecessary or duplicate files. The computer needs free hard drive space in order to supplement the amount of physical random-access memory installed in the computer. The more space available on the hard drive, the faster the game will be able to go.

2. Ensure that the computer is always restarted prior to launching the game. Restarting the computer clears the physical RAM and ensures that the much slower swap file is not used while the game is running.

3. Close any programs that autostart after the computer is restarted prior to launching the game. While restarting the computer clears the computer's resources, programs that automatically start upon restart take up valuable resources. Press the "Control-Alt-Delete" keys simultaneously to access the task manager. Click on the unwanted programs and then press the "End Task" button to close them.
