Schools For Nuclear Medicine Technologist Programs

Students interested in nuclear medicine have a variety of college choices.


Nuclear medicine technologists administer radionuclides to patients in order to take images of the body and treat illnesses. Nuclear medicine technologists must undergo classroom and clinical training to be qualified to work. A variety of training programs are accredited by the Joint Review Committee of Educational Programs and qualify graduates to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals and clinics.


Loma Linda University


Located in Loma Linda, California, Loma Linda University offers a 12-month certificate program in nuclear medicine technology. In addition classroom instruction at the university, students partake in clinical rotations. Most clinical rotations are held at Loma Linda University Medical Center, though some may require students to travel to other health care facilities. To be considered for admission to the program, students must have graduated from an accredited program of radiologic technology, be certified as a medical technologist and be currently licensed as a registered nurse or possess a bachelor's degree in a natural science. Students are completely responsible for funding their tuition as financial aid is not available.

Hines VA School of Nuclear Medicine Technology


Hines VA School of Nuclear Medicine Technology, located in Hines, Illinois, offers a one-year internship program in nuclear medicine technology. Students complete clinical rotations in a variety of nuclear medicine departments of major medical centers in the greater Chicago area. The program, which starts annually in July, admits eight students each year to the internship. Students of College of St. Francis, Benedictine University, Northern Illinois University, St. Mary's University, University of Wisconsin at La Crosse and Roosevelt University are eligible to use their experience in the internship program towards their graduation requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear medicine technology. There are no fees associated with the internship program. Students are not paid to participate in the internship program.

Jackson Memorial Hospital


Located in Miami, Florida, Jackson Memorial Hospital offers a 15-month certificate program in nuclear medicine technology. The full-time program includes 40 hours of instruction each week. Throughout the course of the program, students receive both classroom and clinical instruction. To be considered for admission to the program, applicants must submit to a background check and have completed at least 60 college credits. Previous college coursework in physical and life sciences, computer science and mathematics is required. Financial aid is not available for this program.
