Plan ahead to become a state fair vendor.
Every year in mid-October the North Carolina State Fair celebrates the bounty of the state during its 10-day event. If you are a purveyor of food, jewelry, novelties and merchandise, the fair offers a bustling marketplace with thousands of visitors each day. Take advantage of the sales potential at the state fair in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Instructions
1. Take a photo of your booth and photos of the products or food you wish to sell. Label the back of each photo with your business name, a contact phone number and what the photo shows.
2. Assemble samples of the brochures and literature you plan to distribute at the fair booth. The state fair selection committee must approve each item.
3. Make an itemized list of the specific products and items you will sell. Food vendors must make a menu, which cannot be changed after the cut-off date, approximately 45 days prior to the state fair's opening. Check their literature for the cut-off date.
4. Print out the vendor application form available on the North Carolina State Fair website. Fill in all the information, including the dimensions of the booth space you are requesting. Include complete contact information for three business references from fairs and festivals in which you have previously participated.
5. Place the application, photos, lists or menus, and literature samples in an envelope. Mail the items to the state fair address in Raleigh, North Carolina found on the application form. Send the envelope at least one week before the application deadline (about three and a half months prior to fair's opening) to ensure it arrives in time. Check the fair's literature to determine deadline date.
6. Wait for a telephone call from the state fair office, confirming you have been awarded a booth space. Upon acceptance, obtain a certificate of general liability insurance naming the North Carolina State Fair as an additional insured in the amount designated by the fair, which, as of 2010 is $1 million. If you are a food vendor, obtain a certificate of Production Liability Insurance. Mail the certificates to the state fair office to arrive before the deadline date for insurance documentation.
